Veterans Parade Honors Education

Celebrations Committee Chair Roy Switzler has said that years ago the Veterans Parade was moved from its traditional November date to a weekend in May because it always used to rain, and for the second year in a row that change paid off with dramatic results.

It was another beautifully sunny and warm Wellesley's Wonderful Weekend from May 18-20, including the Veterans Parade that Sunday.

"Concept" of H.S. Football Playoff is Approved

The MIAA's Tournament Management Committee (TMC) voted 15-0 on March 19 to approve the concept of a new statewide high school football playoff system. The proposal to change the current system, which does not allow for true state champions and makes fewer teams eligible for the playoffs than in other high school sports, was developed by the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association (MHSHCA). It now awaits a vote on May 10 by the MIAA Board of Directors.

Community Health Assessment is Both Encouraging and Concerning

A health assessment of nine Metro West communities including Wellesley was recently released by the West Suburban Community Health Network Area 18 (CHNA18), and the news was mostly promising. While Wellesley residents overall fared better on most health indicators, sources of concern exist.

26.2 for a Cause

When the Boston Marathon runs through Wellesley on April 16, several athletes will have more than the finish line on their minds. Eight are running the race on behalf of the Friends of Wellesley METCO; four runners will lace up their sneaks to raise money for Wellesley ABC.

The two nonprofits were chosen by the Board of Selectmen to receive race numbers given to the town by the Boston Athletic Association in exchange for hosting a leg of the race.
